Illustrative connected manufacturing operation with digital monitoring equipmentAI-generated illustrative operation

A camera observes packages; the amber package is a fictional exception.

Illustrative inspection workflow · not a live AI system

AI &
Automation.

Automate with purpose. Keep people in control.

Python applications, computer vision and industrial AI for engineering tasks and recurring decisions. We test the approach against a simpler baseline and make checks, limits and ownership explicit.

A practical tool, not a black box.

The solution should earn its place and remain understandable to your team.

Define the task.
Keep the checks visible.

We establish the inputs, operating conditions and measures that make the tool useful. Vision may help capture overlooked stops; a Python application may remove repetitive analysis without needing machine learning.

  • A clear task and simpler baseline
  • Feasibility, inputs and error cases
  • Human review and exception handling

Purpose before technology.

Use AI where it earns its place; keep simpler methods where they are sufficient.

Test the approach.
Before operational use.

Detection errors and poor decision policies need a safe place to be found. We evaluate feasibility offline or in simulation, then review the findings and limitations with your team.

  • Compare with existing rules
  • Review failures and exceptions
  • Test policies in simulation where scoped

This workflow illustrates review steps—not a live vision system or validated AI result.

A transparent handover.
With ownership built in.

The code, checks and maintenance needs matter as much as the demonstration. We agree how inputs are updated, exceptions are reviewed and the solution can be understood after the engagement.

  • Models or scripts with their code
  • Documented checks and limitations
  • A scoped tool your team can maintain

Rules, Python
or machine learning?

A reliable rule or a small application may solve the task. Machine learning and vision are considered where they offer a useful advantage, with reliability, explainability and maintenance included in the comparison.

  • Custom Python applications

A clearer basis for business decisions.

Recover engineering time

Identify repeatable analysis that a maintainable rule-based tool or Python application can handle.

See what records miss

Evaluate computer vision for short stops and other events that are difficult to capture consistently.

Assess smarter operating policies

From evidence to a usable decision.

  1. Establish the task and baseline

Define the inputs, decision and success measures. Check whether a simpler method is sufficient.

  2. Test feasibility and failure cases

Evaluate detection errors, policy limits and exceptions in an appropriate offline or simulated setting.

  3. Hand over a transparent tool

Document checks, assumptions and maintenance needs so your team can understand the solution.

The engineering behind the decision.

Python, machine learning and vision applied where they earn their place, and left out where they do not.

Our approach

This sits alongside simulation rather than in place of it. A model is a safe environment to train a policy in, because a rule that turns out to be poor costs a run rather than a shift. Vision can capture the short stops that manual logging rounds away. Python removes the analysis that would otherwise be repeated by hand every month. All three are useful in the right place, and all three are easy to reach for too early.

Choosing a practical solution

A well-specified rule, a scheduling heuristic or a clear piece of analysis may solve the task without machine learning. We compare that simpler baseline with the AI approach, including reliability, explainability and maintenance, before recommending a solution.

Testing decision policies safely

Reinforcement learning can learn a policy for recurring decisions, such as job dispatch or sequencing around changeovers. Training and comparison take place in a simulation rather than on the operating plant. Performance against existing rules, model limits and failure cases must be reviewed before considering operational use.

Capturing overlooked downtime

Micro stops and their causes can fall below a reporting threshold, leaving interruptions out of the downtime record. Vision is one way to capture them where instrumenting the equipment is not practical. Feasibility, detection errors and the reporting workflow need to be evaluated for the operation.
